The DEET Education Program (DEP) is a stewardship effort that offers consumers, healthcare professionals and public health organizations useful information on products, product use, and vector-borne disease prevention strategies.
It is supported by the leading producers of DEET and the companies that use this as the active ingredient in repellent products. These organizations are Clariant Corporation, Vertellus, SC Johnson & Son, Inc., and 3M Company—all U.S. headquartered companies. The scientists and other professionals at these organizations are world-class experts in the creation, development, formulation, and study of state-of-the-art repellent products.
The DEP operates under the auspices of the Research & Regulatory Management Council, a program of the Household & Commercial Products Association. Formed more than a decade ago, it works with experts from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local public health organizations, and professional organizations such as the National Association of School Nurses, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and others.
